Project Spotlight: Delaware Facility Optimization & VRU Upgrade

Our team was initially engaged to perform a comprehensive capacity, operations, safety, and safeguarding analysis for this Delaware oil battery facility. The study resulted in the implementation of approximately 50 strategic upgrades to improve performance and compliance.

Following that work, we were re-engaged to troubleshoot ongoing operational challenges, including frequent thief hatch venting and overloading of the VRUs and flare system. Our solution included:

  • Recommending a lower inlet separation pressure

  • Installing three backpressure control valves (BPCVs) to manage high-rate wells

  • Upgrading the LP flare system with new piping, a liquids pump, and a condensate separator/pump to allow safe and reliable combustor operation

Most recently, we helped the client optimize a 300 HP VRU that was significantly underutilized while incurring ~$20K/month in operating costs. We evaluated inventory equipment versus purchased equipment and provided several equipment options with ROI comparisons to guide their investment decision.

Our final deliverables included a mechanical bid-ready Scope of Work package with:

  • Annotated images and marked-up P&IDs

  • VRU general arrangements and performance data

  • Piping specifications and facility construction guidelines

  • A standardized vendor bid form
